Wal-Mart is going down the tubes

Today while on my way to church, I learned a very sad truth on the radio. Wal-Mart has laid off 10% of its workers at the distribution centers. This is a very sad bit of information, and I know that there are people being laid off of all kinds of jobs because of the economy. The truth is that this did not have to happen.

There are plenty of ways to cut back, without first letting it affect the associates that work for Wal-Mart. Not only did they just do lay-offs, but they are cutting associates hours that have worked for the company for years. Im talking ten to twenty years of hard dedicated service. It would be one thing if it was just a couple of hours, then there would be no point in mentioning it at all. There are weeks that they go to work and see their are only scheduled fourteen hours. This is horrible. These people have families to feed, and in order to get those hours they basically have to go and beg for them. Look in every department and see if they can pick up any hours.

The restructuring was supposed to help the associates to do their job better, when in fact all it did was enable the Wal-Mart corporation to cut down on the amount of people they have to employ. So I ask you, why was it necessary to lay off good working people when the cut backs have already been made. Lets just hope that things get a little better, because if a corporation like Wal-Mart has to make lay-offs who knows who might be next.
